War Waged By Other Means

Mike stared at the screen incredulously. He could barely believe what he was seeing in front of him.

Mike worked as a tech writer by trade, and a good chunk - a majority - of his day was spent keeping up on news in the blogosphere. He had his own blog, Mikeshow, that he posted to regularly, but the real action happened in the comments threads of the big boys in town, and it was at this that he stared.

He had left his comment fairly recently. The post was a vanilla-type blurb about a new Apple rumor, which the blogosphere was fairly susceptible to, and Mike, as a seasoned journalist, had felt the need to point this out. In a completely respectful way, of course.

Dedication

This short story was inspired by the Machine of Death project, but I found out too late to be considered for submission. Here's the story.

The first he heard of it was frantic cries from the students in the hallway.

"Help, help! The professor! He's going to jump!"

Martin looked up from his papers. It was 2:45 PM, and class started in 15 minutes. He was still preparing his notes for that day's lecture and was not pleased at being so interrupted.

An Unfortunate Accident

It happened quite suddenly. The sound of breaking glass, tires squealing against concrete, a rumbling from underneath the chassis.

They say that time slows down but for me it was very much the opposite. Everything started happening too fast to fully comprehend and although I expected some sort of recap, the fabled ‘flash before your eyes’ I got nothing. Everything seemed to happen at precisely the same moment in time merging together like some macabre temporal tapestry.
